Personal life history:

Oscar Omondi Odondi a.k.a X-sinner(Former Sinner) was born in Kisumu City, Western Kenya. He was born in a polygamous family as his father was married to two women. The first(his step mother) had two sons, while he is  the only son with three sisters, and the second born from his mother’s side.

He was brought up in Kisumu town where he attended his primary. However, immediately after completing his primary school, he lost both his parents to a grisly road accident.

After losing his parents at 13,  X-sinner,  together with his two younger sisters moved to live with his maternal grandmother, in a rural setting in Mbita District, Southern part of Kenya. He joined Waondo Secondary school, a day school located 50 Kilometers away from Mbita Town .X-sinner was thus brought up in an environment full of hardships. At one point, he had to drop out of school for two consecutive semesters  to do odd jobs in order to feed his little sisters and his ageing grandmother. However, this did not deter him from working hard and holding on to his dreams, of becoming an accomplished scholar and Musician.

In 2002, he sat his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations and qualified to join Kenyatta University, under the Joint Admissions Board and the Higher Education Loans Board programme in September 2004.Thus he joined Kenyatta University in 2004 for his undergraduate studies. He graduated in 2008.In 2010, he decided to dedicate his life to Christ and began singing as a way of expressing gratitude to God for the far that He has brought him, and also to use music as a way of communicating hope, especially to all the orphans out there. His main reason for going into music was basically to demonstrate that God can uplift anyone, in spite of the hardships that one may face in life and regardless of one’s family background.

In his entire life, X-sinner has experienced what many orphans all over Kenya and the entire world experience. Despise, hate, discrimination, lack of parental love and a life full of lack for  even the most basic of needs that a child may need in his/her life. At age 14, he became a herdsman just to fend for his family, apart from engaging in other odd jobs.

Background in Music.

He was brought up in a Christian family but full of diversity. His mother was a committed Seventh Day Adventist while his father was a committed member of Deliverance church. As a result, he is well conversant with both churches, as he has attended both since his childhood. The father (The late Patrick Odondi Adoyo) held a masters degree in Music and taught music in several colleges before his death. Among the colleges he taught in include Kagumo, Thogoto, and Asumbi Teachers Colleges. He was also a member of the Nyanza Province Music Professionals and Adjudicators. As a result of this, X-sinner found himself slowly but steadily  loving Music from a very tender age. And with the coaching of his father, he performed well in music both as a subject in school, and as an art.From this background X-sinner developed the dream of becoming an accomplished musician. At 11 years, he had already began singing in church, especially at Kisumu East S.D.A church and at school (Kibuye Mixed Primary School). At 12 years, he presented a solo song that was ranked first in Kisumu District and earned him the fame and his first certificate in Music.

After the death of his parents at 13, he joined Waondo Secondary School in Mbita District. Here, X-sinner joined the Waondo School band. The school band was basically comprised of traditional music instrument players. Here, X-sinner gained skills in playing traditional instruments such as the Coastal marimba.  He was also the lead singer in his school choir, the Waondo secondary school choir.

In 2004, X-sinner joined Kenyatta University and immediately developed interests in Music. Although, he pursued a bachelor’s degree in Education, his interest in Music was imminent through out his entire period in Kenyatta University. He performed in many university public functions.

However, he began his professional singing a year ago when he recorded his first song with Kamata Entertainment, based in Nairobi. He later moved on to record with Dede Records(Timeless records), also based in Nairobi’s Muthaiga area. He is currently working on his debut album at Dede Records to be released later this year, working closely with producer Sammy Gitonga.

Educational History.

X-sinner began his schooling in Kibuye Mixed Primary School in Kisumu, where he sat his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examinations in 1997.In 1998, he joined Waondo Secondary School, where he sat his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, in 2002.He later joined Kenyatta University in 2004 to pursue his undergraduate degree.He graduated with a bachelors degree in Education, with a specialization in Swahili language and History/Political Studies in 2008.In 2008 July, he joined the Kenya Institute of Management, to pursue a management course in Public Relations Management.He graduated with a Diploma in Public Relations Management.In 2009 September, he enrolled for a post-graduate Diploma in Mass Communication at the Kenya Institute of mass Communication, from where he graduated in 2010, after completing his diploma.This he did purposely for his keen interests in Music.Thus, he gained professional knowledge and skills in Audio/Radio production, Video and TV production and editing, script writing, journalistic skills and general media operations.

X-sinner is currently pursuing his Masters degree in international Relations at the University of Nairobi, in which he is in his last semester, and expects to graduate next year.

In his entire life, X-sinner has had God’s favours and miracles in almost every activity he engages in, from his life journey to his education. His life has been surrounded by God’s presence and miracles.

Favourite artist:Kirk Franklin, The late Angela Chibalonza.Both the two are also an inspiration in my life

Opinion on music locally and internationally.

Music is an art, and every art is dynamic and expected to evolve each day.Thus, even the Kenyan Music has never been static, its growing and new talented artists are on the rise.
